Time to update

Life would be less stressful if we prepared for the inevitable and who doesn’t want less stress? Just think of the times you were completely ready for the challenges ahead: a surprise test that you studied for or having savings on hand to take care of unforeseen circumstances. How relieved were you to know you were ready for the unpredictable?

That feeling alone should be more than enough reason to have an updated resume. You may not be able to imagine the circumstances that could lead to someone requesting your resume, but having a resume that is ready to go might mean the difference between a new career and a missed opportunity.  A job opening for a position you’ve always wanted could become available at any given time. Having the ability to confidently submit a resume, especially a professionally written and proofread document, will boost your chances even more to get the position you desire. That confidence will carry over into your interview.

Maybe you’re happy with your current position and see no real reason to dust off that outdated resume. That’s fantastic, but this is also the best time to bring life to your resume. You’re in a wonderful job and things can’t get any better; consistently exceeding and growing at work – what better way to keep track of your achievements than to present it on your resume. The best resumes are those with achievements detailing your various promotions and contributions; look at it as your trophy display case. Just in case things make a turn for the worst, you have a document that can vouch for your accomplishments. During hard times, it’s difficult to remember everything that we achieved or were commended for, documenting it as it occurs makes it concrete and prepares you for any possibility.

Are you still curious to know the best time to update your resume? The answer is: NOW.
